Children’s Home Shepherd’s Home

The children’s home called Shepherd’s Home is located at the Northern-Eastern part of Accra. Shepherd’s Home takes care of many other children among which six of them are living now in the home. They are from two to nine years. Mainly the children have disabled mothers who beg by the road sides or at traffic lights who have no husbands to care for them. The children are mostly endangered by being with their mothers and begging through the streets and vehicles. The children have been brought there to have safe environment, to go to school and to have well balanced diet and health care. They are taken care of by a housemother.

The children are taking to school and are brought back every day. They go through the normal school curriculum and hope to get a brighter future. They are given three square meals a day and a structure through the day. They have time to play in the house as much as time to learn with the help of the housemother. It is a beauty to see them colouring and expressing their inner desire in art. The children are different characters and temperament. As one would want to jump sky-high when she has a gift another would dance around the whole house, whiles the other would sit and smile. This shows how different people can be but live in loving one another.

Though sometimes there are misunderstandings, one can see how these little once except themselves as if they were siblings. They all come together to report someone who has done something bad. And this becomes a check on the others, too. What is amazing is when their school report comes and they are being read. Each child would want something good to be told him or her. If not he or she turns cold.

To us all we see in the children means that children are a joy and a blessing!
